REVIEW: The Dark Knight Rises

After taking the fall for the death of Harvey Dent (Two Face), Batman (Christian Bale) goes underground and lets the police and city work to heal itself. Unfortunately, old wounds can be opened again and pain is the currency evil deals in. After 8 years of silence, The Batman is need once again.

The reason for his return is a terrorist known as Bane (Tom Hardy). An evil man that was trained just as Bruce Wayne was, only Bane's training is now being used to decimate and destroy. Coming back into the world, Bruce Wayne must fix his company, his body and his relationships. While Batman, must once again find the anger and meaning to fight for justice.

Included in this terroristic romp is Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) aka Selena Kyle, a superb thief that wants to escape her life in favor of a better one. As she runs though, she heads into a war zone created by Bane and his men. She has to choose whether to save her own skin or help Batman and the people of Gotham. On the other side of the coin, is Officer Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a Gotham police officer who has a secret and sincerely believes that The Batman is needed. He works to get into the good graces of Police Commisioner Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and helps tosway the truth of Gotham and the true need of its caped crusader.

Explosive, angry and visually stunning, I highly recommend this movie. Nolan worked to make something new from a franchise that was hit hard by the death of Heath Ledger (Joker). And while Bane does not change the game like Ledger's Joker, Tom Hardy is no slouch himself (Outside of not being able to understand Bane's words at times).

This movie is very bittersweet for me. I have been looking forward to it for years, but am now sad to see the end of the Christopher Nolan / Batman era. Sitting in my seat though, I couldn't be more excited. This movie promised a Batman on a scale we have never seen before. Shot in IMAX and delivered with blisteringly loud sound, this movie is yet another landmark in movie making. And while I did love the movie, something in me wanted more. Even at 2 hours and 45 minutes, this movie still feels rushed. If we can give two-part episodes to Twilight and Harry Potter, couldn't we do the same for our friendly neighborhood Batman?
